As a practicing dentist since 1982 and an orthodontist since 1990, I am continually excited about my profession. With strengths in systems and problem solving, my goal is to develop a treatment system that provides excellent orthodontics as quickly and comfortably as possible.

It has always been my desire to work in a team environment that's informal and fun. I see our practice as a community of patients, parents, staff, vendors, and labs. While I take my patients' care very seriously, I also understand the importance of having fun! I love the relationships my team and I have created with patients and their families, and the laughter that permeates our office makes for a warm and enjoyable environment we all can enjoy.

Dr. Bob Stockdale is a native Californian, born in San Jose. He grew up in the Midwest, then returned to California, where he graduated from Loma Linda Academy. His father, a physician, decided that Bob, then 17, and his brother Scott, age 16 needed to experience something similar to what he had lived through as a young boy during the depression. He bought them tickets to London, England, and promised to send them each $75 a month to live on. Nine months later they returned home, thinner and wiser, having visited eight countries and traveled over 10,000 miles. After this experience Dr. Bob decided to study hard in college, as he found living on $75 a month difficult, to say the least!

A few years later he graduated from Loma Linda University with a degree in psychology, then from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, with a DDS degree.

After graduating from dental school, Dr. Bob was in private dental practice for six years, gaining experience in general dentistry and being rewarded by the happiness of his patients when they saw their new smiles. As time went by he realized that many of the dental problems he was dealing with could have been prevented or treated to a better result if the teeth were better positioned. So he returned to the Graduate School at Loma Linda and completed his residency in orthodontics in 1990. Since then he has practiced as an orthodontic specialist here in Southern California, spending the past thirteen years with Riverside Dental Group's offices in Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley and Temecula.

Because most dentists go directly into their orthodontic programs immediately after dental school, Dr. Bob's thorough foundation in general dentistry benefits you in that he has a more holistic understanding of dentistry, which is a valuable aid in evaluating and planning your orthodontic care.

Dr. Bob is married to the gracious Linda, who contributes greatly to the family atmosphere of the office. She has a heart for people and intuitively knows what patients or family members might need, helping them feel relaxed and comfortable. It’s important to both Linda and Dr. Bob that our patient’s questions and concerns be heard and resolved. Linda also coordinates appointments with other health care professionals, relieving the stress of busy parents or patients.

Together they have raised five children. Troy, the oldest did much of our orthodontic lab work for many years, and lives in Redlands. His brother Chad lives in Apple Valley, and has recently finished EMT training. Their three daughters live in Washington State. Liz and her husband Jeff both have degrees in social work and look forward to having their first child. Alex has degrees in social work and library science, and is planning a wedding in March, 2014. Briana recently finished a year of teaching elementary school with Americorps, and is looking forward to a career in elementary education.

Dr. Bob's interests are wide and varied; he has never met a hobby he didn't like! He enjoys woodworking, with a guitar and viola under construction, along with the beginnings of a cello. He raises parrots, has bred and shown alpacas, raises tropical frogs and is involved in habitat conservation. He and Linda enjoy their bird feeders in the back yard, and are looking forward to getting Lambert Morgan horses when they have more space. Dr. Bob has played various musical instruments, starting with piano as a child, then trumpet, tuba, guitar, French horn, harpsichord, bass recorder, baritone and soprano saxophone, to name a few! He is learning to paint in oils, and is commissioning cartoon and poster art as well as photographing graffiti on boxcars for a series of orthodontic t-shirts. He enjoys baking, with sourdough bread and Detroit pizza particular favorites. In spare moments he likes to write, and has finished a children's story, with vague ideas of finding an illustrator so it can be published as a picture book.

Dr. Bob and Linda both grew up in families and churches where contributing to education and other community causes was important, and they are involved with a number of charities focused on the needs of children.
