This new X-ray machine is digital, so instead of using film the images are captured by a sensor and processed and displayed on our computer screens. A big advantage of digital x-rays is that the amount of radiation exposure needed is a fraction of what was required with older, film based x-rays. And because there’s no need to develop film, the images are available almost immediately. So when a new patient comes in for a consultation Dr. Stockdale can view and discuss the x-rays with them, and complete the diagnosis and treatment plan at the same appointment. Often we can put braces on as well, doing in a single appointment what used to require two or three.
